Laurel Property Taxes Increasing 30 Percent
Residents in Laurel are preparing for a substantial increase in property taxes, set to take effect on October 1st. The town's property taxes will surge by 30%, a decision that was made by the Sussex County town back in June as part of the 2023-2024 fiscal budget. The town is raising taxes in large part to fund the hiring of two new police officers, a move that Town Manager Jamie Smith says will help combat the increasing crime rate in the area.

The St. Louis County Council voted 4-1 Tuesday night to approve $155 million in tax incentives for Boeing Co.'s proposed $1.8 billion development near St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The deal gives the aerospace company a 50% cut in real estate and personal property taxes over the next 10 years. It also allows for some building materials to be exempt from sales and use tax.
