FLORIDA

Lee County property tax rate up more than 12% over roll-back

Lee County taxpayers will be facing an increase of 12.29% on the tax rate for the budget year that begins on Oct. 1. Owners of real estate will be paying $3.7623 per $1,000 value on their property. The increase is based on the so-called roll-back rate, which is the tax rate that would raise the same amount of tax revenue as the prior year, which is $3.3505.

If you're counting pennies during the Biden inflation boom, you might not want to be living in North Jersey, where residents are paying the highest property taxes in America. But are they getting a good bang for their buck? As many are leaving the state, probably not. Unfortunately, many are handcuffed to good paying jobs and can't make trip across the Delaware or to the deep south.

New era at Tarrant Appraisal District? Board tries to move forward after controversy

After more than a year of tension and mistrust between the Tarrant Appraisal District and some taxpayers, the board of directors selected William Durham as interim chief appraiser on Sept. 18. Directors unanimously voted for Durham to temporarily take over former chief appraiser Jeff Law's position after two and a half hours of deliberation in executive session. 

Tarrant Appraisal District acknowledges computer system security breach possible

For the first time Tuesday the Tarrant Appraisal District acknowledged it was possible an outside party may have accessed its computer system. Board members said they did not have information on what may have been accessed, or if information of individual property owners may have been exposed, but moved to hire a firm to determine if there was a breach and if so, to do a full audit of what happened.
