Iconic San Francisco Hotel Has Lost 90% of Its Value, Owner Says

The Chase Center. The Westin St. Francis Hotel. The Transamerica Pyramid. These properties are among the most iconic in San Francisco, but what they also have in common is their owners are applying for dramatic cuts in their assessed values in a worrying sign for the city's fiscal health. At Chase Center, property owners are attempting to cut the city's assessed $1.48 billion value for the stadium by some 58% to $635 million.


Thousands of Douglas County property owners see some relief from value appeals

One of every four residential property owners disputed the value of homes — as calculated for tax purposes — this year in Douglas County, and thousands of their properties' values have been lowered now that the county has finished processing the disputes. “It has been and will continue to be a tough deal for our citizens, as well as for our team,” said Toby Damisch, who heads the county's property valuation office.


Fulton Co. commissioners propose nearly 13% tax increase, hold final public hearing before vote
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners proposed a property tax increase for homeowners at the end of July. The plan, put forth by the commissioners ahead of public comment sessions, was announced July 24, announcing a proposal of increasing property taxes by 12.8% over the rollback millage rate. The first two public comment sessions were held on Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.


Property Values In Winnebago County Hit New Record High, Jump 11% From 2022

The value of all property across Winnebago County has hit its highest level ever behind a record-breaking real estate market that continues to see home sale prices surge. It is the second consecutive year that the taxable value of all property reached a record high. This year's equalized assessed value of more than $6.4 billion is an 11% increase from 2022. 


Property tax relief program for seniors axed after one year

Maine state lawmakers have effectively done away with the Property Tax Stabilization Program for Seniors by voting to fund it only for the current tax year that began April 1, 2023. The program was passed last year as LD 290 with the purpose of providing property tax relief to seniors over the age of 65.


Montana Homeowners and Renters Face Record Property Tax Increase

Homeowners and renters in Montana are set to experience the largest property tax increase in history, amounting to nearly $200 million, according to Dan Bucks, former head of the Montana Department of Revenue. At the same time, large entities like telecommunications companies benefited from tax breaks totaling approximately $107 million last year, and these breaks are only growing. 


Barton Town Board removes tax assessor

The Barton Town Board held a public hearing on Monday evening to discuss the removal of the sole tax assessor to the municipality for just cause. Town of Barton Tax Assessor Melanie Stewart was appointed the position by the town board on July 11, 2022 following the resignation of former assessor Mary Jo LeClaire. 


Popular Ohio property tax exemption to adjust with inflation after state law change

Ohio House lawmakers on Wednesday highlighted the expansion of a program that helps qualifying homeowners save hundreds of dollars on property taxes. Following a change in the state budget this year, the amount that qualifying homeowners can reduce their taxable property value through the state Homestead Exemption will now adjust with inflation.


A proposal would give all Tennessee seniors a property tax break. Will it work?

What if turning 65 also meant your property taxes would disappear? In Tennessee, there are some tax relief programs for seniors, but a lot of people don't qualify. Your income, including spouse, and all owners of the property, can not exceed $33,460. Because so many seniors aren't eligible, there's a proposal on the table to create a Golden Homeowners Tax Relief program that could potentially help all senior homeowners.
