Housing Starts Up Nearly 22% In May, Signaling Possible Relief For Beleaguered Developers

The number of residential groundbreakings spiked last month, suggesting a future softening of home prices and rental rates as more supply hits the market. Construction on more than 1.6 million single-family and multifamily units kicked off in May, up 21.7% month-over-month and representing the highest rate since April 2022.


ILLINOIS

After 25 years, Keystone wins tax exemption, River Forest relents

In a legal battle which has been fought since 1998, Keystone Montessori School has bested River Forest's village government and been granted a nonprofit property tax exemption on its North Avenue facility by a state government agency. Most notably after years of appeals in multiple court venues and in front of state agencies, River Forest accepts the outcome and will not make any further efforts to collect property taxes from the school.

SCC property taxes to soar ahead of change to how Nebraska funds community colleges

Property owners living inside Southeast Community College's 15-county service area could see a big increase on their tax statement when they go to pay their 2023 taxes next year. On Tuesday, the SCC Board of Governors gave preliminary approval to a plan to raise the total tax levy to 11.25 cents per $100 of valuation, the maximum allowed under state law, in order to fund a $358.5 million budget.


WASHINGTON

King County Assessor: Island home values down 12.1 percent

Home values on Vashon are down 12.1 percent this year, according to a new report by the King County Assessor's Office. But that doesn't mean your property taxes will drop. Owners of single-family homes should be receiving revaluation notices from the Assessor's Office in the mail soon. The new values will be used to calculate taxes due in 2024.
