Montana Legislature continues work on tax relief bills

Both Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte and the Republican majority in the Montana Legislature have identified tax relief as one of their top priorities for the 68th Session. But as lawmakers begin hearing the first set of major tax bills, some differences have appeared in exactly how they want to return money to taxpayers.


PENNSYLVANIA

County Council gives some taxpayers second shot at challenging property assessments

Allegheny County property owners will get a second chance to challenge recent property assessments under a bill passed by County Council on Tuesday. Taxpayers hoping to appeal their 2022 property assessments now have until March 31 to do so. The move comes after Common Pleas Judge Alan Hertzberg ruled last fall that the county “failed to administer the property tax assessment appeal system in a just and impartial manner.”

Sen. Bettencourt says Texans could vote on tax relief plan

One of the key moments shaping the path of the legislative session happened the day before the session started. That's when State Comptroller Glenn Hegar revealed the Biennial Revenue Estimate, which tells lawmakers how much money they'll have to spend on the state budget.
