CALIFORNIA

Stanford surpasses Getty Museum as largest recipient of property tax exemptions in California

Stanford University recently surpassed the Getty Museum in Los Angeles as the largest recipient of property tax exemptions in California. The university received more than $16.8 billion in tax exemptions last year for its various campus properties, nearly half of the $35.2 billion of property tax exemptions in the county, according to the Santa Clara County Assessor.


FLORIDA

With Budget Gutted by Voters, FL Firefighters Turn in Gear En Masse

After voters shot down a special tax assessment wiping out 43 percent of Upper Captiva Fire Rescue's budget, nearly all the firefighters including the chief have resigned. The department will be left with six after 40 firefighters will be gone by the end of the year, NBC2 reported.


MISSOURI

Missouri lawmakers unlikely to tackle solar energy tax issue next year

Disagreements over how Missouri should tax large solar energy farms may not be resolved in the coming legislative session. In a meeting Monday, a special panel of state lawmakers, local tax assessors and renewable energy groups finalized a report they compiled designed to address disputes between local governments and solar energy companies over property taxes.


NEW YORK

The tax exemption will help recruitment and keeping volunteers

New York state has made local governments an offer officials are likely not going to refuse. The state Legislature and Gov. Kathy Hochul have approved a property tax exemption of up to 10 % on the primary home for volunteer first responders who have been members of a fire department or ambulance service for at least two years.

The Contractor proposed digging 3 ponds on the property of 5, 7, and 9 acres and paying the family $14 a truckload for the sand. It seemed like a win/win proposition to the family until they heard from the Charleston County Assessor. 


TEXAS

Travis County officials warn residents about thieves stealing tax payments from the mail

With tax payments closing in, the Travis County Sheriff's Office and the Travis County Tax Office want to warn people about thieves that are getting their hands on your payments from the mail. Officials say they had about nine cases of property tax payments stolen from the mail totaling about $117,000.


Bryan ISD School Board Approves A Property Tax Break For An Unidentified Corporation

An unidentified corporation gets the Bryan school board to limit assessed property valuation for a ten year period. Four BISD board members participating in a special meeting December 15 approved without public discussion, a value limitation agreement for something that known only as “Project Titan”.
