CANADA

Property tax rate balance tilting further against commercial properties, report finds

The gap between commercial and residential property tax rates in Canada is growing, according to a joint study from Altus Group and the Real Property Association of Canada. The 2022 Canadian Property Tax Rate Benchmark Report, which was released on Wednesday, found that seven out of the 11 major cities surveyed have a commercial tax rate that is more than double the residential tax rate.


ARKANSAS

Saline County property values increase by more than 30 percent

Depending on the county, in Arkansas, the reappraisal of property values occurs once every three or five years. In 2022, the property values of Saline County were reassessed for the first time since 2017. Saline County, due to its growth over the recent years, will now have its property values reevaluated every three years.


CALIFORNIA

Marin median home price rises amid regional decline

The median price for a detached home in Marin County rose last month even while prices fell across the broader Bay Area. The median — the point at which half the prices were higher and half lower — was $1.77 million in September, according to the latest data from the county assessor's office. That was an increase of about 3.6% over September 2021.


FLORIDA

District asking Nassau County voters to approve property tax increase aimed at improving schools

Early voting started Wednesday in Nassau County with a question for voters about the future of their schools. The Nassau County School District is asking voters to approve a property tax increase — similar to what more than 20 other Florida counties have done, including Duval County in August. 


IDAHO

Idaho Property Tax Could Increase Over 120% In The Next 5 Years

We all know that home prices are up in Idaho. They are up 2.5% year-over-year in September but the number of homes sold fell 30.9% with the number of homes rising to 9.7%, according to Redfin.com with a median home sale price of $472,900. As someone who recently moved here from Nebraska there is some sticker shock when looking at purchasing a house compared to Lincoln, which also has a very hot real estate market.


MAINE

LePage refuses to say whether he'll continue to fully fund public education

During Thursday's gubernatorial debate, Republican Paul LePage refused to say if he would continue to fully fund the state's share of public education. The debate moderator asked the former governor if he would commit to honor the state's obligation to fund 55% of the cost of local education. The threshold was first mandated by Maine voters in a 2004 referendum to ease the burden on local property taxpayers.

Micron would get $284M property tax break under proposed deal with Onondaga County, records show

Micron Technology Inc. would save nearly $284 million under a proposed 49-year property tax deal with Onondaga County for its planned $100 billion computer chip plant in Clay, records show. The Idaho-based maker of computer memory would pay $84.5 million in local property taxes over 49 years on the 1,300-acre site at White Pine Commerce Park.
