Commercial Property Prices Edge Into Annual Growth Territory By A Hair's Breadth

Overall commercial property prices squeaked out growth in August, edging up by 0.2% from a year ago and 0.6% from July, according to MSCI's RCA Commercial Property Price Indexes. MSCI attributed the increase in part to optimism around interest rate cuts and what they might mean for the market overall. The improvement isn't spread across all asset types, however.


Newly Built Apartments Are Starting to Fill Up Faster, But At a Slower Pace Than Last Year

That's according to a Redfin analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau's seasonally adjusted absorption rate data for unfurnished, unsubsidized, privately financed rental apartments in buildings with five or more units, dating back to the first quarter of 2012. The most recent data available measures apartments that were completed in the first quarter of 2024, and either rented or not rented within three months of then.
