Commercial property assessments help push Dubuque County past tax threshold, just shy of another

Dubuque County officials believe they may have avoided a worst-case scenario regarding tax revenue growth, but official numbers from the state to confirm that belief have yet to be provided. Dubuque County Auditor's Office estimates a total 5.95% increase in taxable property value in the county, which includes higher-than-expected commercial property assessments.

Hochul calls for 421-a replacement, extension in NYC

As housing production in New York City hits new lows, Gov. Kathy Hochul is calling once again for a replacement of the 421-a tax abatement program that expired in 2022. During her 2024 State of the State address on Tuesday, the governor said she plans to introduce legislation permitting the city to offer a tax break to developers of new rental construction, as well as an extension of the completion deadline of the expired program.

Gray County to vote on $1 billion tax abatement for green energy project

Gray County has a potential project coming which involves green solar and green hydrogen and has been requested for tax abatements. The solar project will have a projected overall nameplate capacity of about 340 megawatts and would equal to an estimated initial market value of about $395,675,000. The hydrogen project would have an initial market value of about $531,000,000 and would use about 400 megawatts.


Office Sublease Volume Plateaus in Dallas-Fort Worth

Overall sublease availability remains stubbornly high and is nearly twice the volume posted at the beginning of 2020. Sublet availability stands at 2.4%, matching the U.S. norm. Most sublease space in the Dallas-Fort Worth region is concentrated in several office nodes, including the Upper Tollway and West Frisco, DFW Freeport and Downtown Dallas. Total sublease volume accounts for 35% of the total 10.5 million square feet in these areas.

County assessors: No way to implement property tax ballot initiative

Although momentum across the state is gaining for a ballot initiative that would cut residential property taxes in half, implementing the exemption might not be possible. “As of right now, no, we could not administer the initiative,” Wyoming County Assessors Association President Melissa Shinkle said.
