A building currently owned by Neosho County could end up costing taxpayers thousands of extra dollars, when property taxes become due at the end of this calendar year. The building, at 18 N. Evergreen in downtown Chanute, formerly housed a Curves gym before the county bought it in July of 2013 at the cost of $70K. It was initially intended to be used as the new location of the Neosho County Health Department. However, according to County Clerk Randal Neely, it was decided that major work would need to be done to make the facility more weatherproof. Read More

Texas farmers and ranchers can be granted property tax relief on their land. They may apply to the Gaines County Appraisal District for agricultural productivity appraisal and for a lower appraisal of their land based on how much they produce, versus what their land would sell for in the open market.
