Mark Murphy focuses his practice on assessment law and property tax litigation. He has years of experience representing national, regional, and local property owners and tenants in complex property tax litigation. Mark also has extensive experience as a litigator. He previously worked in the Business Litigation Department at Burns & Levinson LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where he practiced in the areas of real estate tax, contract and employment litigation. Before joining Burns & Levinson, Mark was an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, New York.
Mark graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. degree in accounting. He was previously certified as a public accountant by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mark received a J.D. degree from George Washington University School of Law where he was selected to be a member of the Moot Court Board and served as Treasurer of the Student Bar Association.
Mark is a member of the Massachusetts and New York bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a member of the American and Massachusetts Bar Associations and is Chair of the Municipal Tax Practice Group of the Massachusetts Bar. He is an elected member and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Assessors in Westwood, MA.
Mark is a member of The International, Northeastern Regional, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont Associations of Assessing Officers. He is also a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society. He previously served on the Board of Editors of the Boston Bar Journal.
