Tax Breaks for Trees Questioned

The town’s assessor is calling for reform of the Maine Tree Growth tax law, which gives landowners a property tax break on forestland maintained for commercial harvesting. At issue, said Carl Young, who also is the town’s code enforcement officer, is the amount the state reimburses coastal towns like Tremont for the loss of tax revenue. Read more
