NEW YORK CITY-One of the key elements of a program for rehabilitating older building stock in Lower Manhattan had its lease renewed, so to speak, as the state legislature voted Monday to extend a tax break for four more years. The abatement in property tax and reduction in commercial rent tax through the city’s Commercial Revitalization Program are available to commercial tenants that take space in pre-1975 buildings south of Canal Street. The measure, sponsored by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and State Sen. Daniel Squadron, has been submitted to Gov. David Paterson for his signature. Read more
